Tandem stand

Guidance

Placing one foot directly in front of the other narrows the base of support in the side-to-side direction, which is the direction in which balance fails first in older adults.

Before you start

A session holds exercises. An exercise holds sets. Stop what a rule names and everything inside it.

  • Step out of the position: stop the hold.
  • Two grabs for the support: stop the exercise.

The movement

  1. Stand tall beside a bench or solid table.
  2. One hand on the support.
  3. Eyes ahead, fixed point.
  4. One foot directly in front of the other.
  5. Front heel against the back toes.
  6. Both feet pointing forward.

  1. Hold 10 seconds.
  2. Step out of the position.
  3. Swap which foot leads.
  4. Hold 10 seconds again.
