Before you start
A session holds exercises. An exercise holds sets. Stop what a rule names and everything inside it.
- Pain past 5 out of 10 rising: stop the set.
- Two grabs for support: stop the set.
- Dizzy or faint on standing: stop the session.
- Descent not controlled: stop lowering the seat.
The movement
- Firm chair, straight back, no arm rests.
- Four legs. No wheels, casters or swivel.
- Chair against a wall.
- Seat 43 to 45 cm high for the standard version.
- Clear floor in front of the chair.
- Flat shoes with a grip sole, or barefoot on a non-slip floor.
- Sit in the middle of the seat.
- Thighs supported, back touching the chair.
- Feet flat, hip width apart.
- Ankles under or just behind the knees.
- Unsupported version: arms crossed, each hand on the opposite shoulder.
- Supported version: hands on the thighs or a stable surface.
- Eyes ahead, fixed point.
- Camera to one side.
- Shoulder, hip, knee and ankle in frame.
- Lean forwards over the knees.
- Push the feet into the floor.
- Stand to full height.
- Pause one second, hips and knees straight.
- Reach back for the seat with the hips.
- Lower under control until the buttocks touch the seat.
- Pause one second.
